Project Specialist – Job Description (Full-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt)

Under the supervision of Professional Engineers and Project Managers, the Project Specialist will work as a member of our ITS/Traffic Engineering team to complete a variety of projects for clients in transportation, port, industrial, and other environments. This position requires attention to detail, technical ability, exceptional organization skills, a strong work ethic, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, team-oriented, and flexible, possessing the initiative and ability to take on new projects and challenges regularly. This work will consist of a mix of in-office time using a variety of computer-based programs as well as field work performing hands-on troubleshooting, configuration, repair, and installation of system components.
Required Qualifications:
• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in access control/CCTV installation, Ethernet, low-voltage electrical, voice and data cabling, traffic signals, and/or electrical systems
• Knowledge of measuring power consumption and tracing circuits.
• Experience with installation and testing of fiber optics.
• Basic networking and IT knowledge
• Experience using Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to function in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
• Valid Class D Driver’s License Required (or ability to immediately obtain) with acceptable motor vehicle record.
• The eligibility to apply for and obtain a TWIC card
• Requires successful passing of drug screening and background check.
• Must be willing to work flexible schedules, overtime and occasional overnight travel as needed by project needs.
• Must be able to operate a computer and sit for long periods of time.
• Ability to work in the field or outside, able to bend, stoop and climb. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Roles & Responsibilities:
• Perform field installation, maintenance, configuration, and troubleshooting of equipment.
• Perform investigation and find solutions to assist with the development of quotes for new projects.
• Assist with project management functions.
• Learn and apply basic concepts and techniques of ITS design.
• Explore new technology applications with electronics and sensors for clients.
• Develop knowledge of tools and techniques used in the installation and configuration of equipment.
• Demonstrate initiative and moderate problem solving within assigned tasks.
• Collect field data, which could include conducting field observations.
• Prepare cost estimates for various projects with assistance.
• Work as a member of a team or independently to accomplish project tasks.
• Mentor and teach less experienced staff.
• Support administrative activities such as data entry, copy, filing, and document organizing.
• Attend progress meetings with clients and agencies.
• Create and conduct informal technical presentations as necessary.
• Participate in company-wide safety training and discussions.
• Use strong communication skills to communicate internally and externally effectively and efficiently.
• Clearly communicate task status and needs.

Career Progression
From this position, the next step in career progression is to the position of Project Manager. To achieve this promotion, the employee must demonstrate efficiencies in all aspects of work assignment, show progression to independent project management including scheduling, client relations, cost/quote development, ability to maintain strong team relationships with other employees, and quality control.
Obtaining an Electrical Contractor License through the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors is encouraged. Achievement of this license may entitle the employee to additional compensation through a one-time bonus and/or a salary increase.
