ITS Technician – Job Description (Full-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt)

Under the supervision of Professional Engineers and Project Managers, the ITS Technician will work as a member of our ITS/Traffic Engineering team to complete a variety of projects for clients in transportation, port, industrial, and other environments. This position requires attention to detail, technical ability, exceptional organization skills, strong work ethic, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, team-oriented, and flexible, possessing the initiative and ability to take on new projects and challenges regularly. This work will consist of a mix of in-office time using a variety of computer-based programs as well as field work performing hands-on troubleshooting, configuration, repair, and installation of system components. The ITS Technician will be responsible for, but not limited to, the installation and maintenance of all field devices maintained by the company, including network communication hardware and camera systems.
Required Skills/Certifications:
• Basic knowledge of electrical and communications systems
• Basic networking and IT knowledge
• Ability to test AC & DC electronic circuit using a multimeter (voltage, current and continuity)
• Ability to attend fiber cable fusion splice training (certification) or demonstrate fiber splicing with minimum loss
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to function in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
• Configure an IP address on laptop and connect into a camera
• The eligibility to apply for and obtain a TWIC card
• Requires successful passing of drug screening and background check.
• Take assignments and submit timesheets using a digital web-based or app-based platform
• Valid Class D Driver’s License Required (or ability to immediately obtain) with acceptable motor vehicle record.
• Must be able to operate a computer and sit for long periods of time.
• Ability to work in the field or outside, able to bend, stoop and climb. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
What will make you stand out?
• Possession of or ability to obtain CDL License.
• Prior experience in access control/CCTV installation, Ethernet, low-voltage electrical, voice and data cabling, traffic signals, and/or electrical systems
• Familiarity with computer networking, electronic systems, wireless communications devices, and electronic sensors
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Knowledge of measuring power consumption and tracing circuits.
• Experience with installation and testing of fiber optics.
Roles & Responsibilities:
• Perform field installation, maintenance, configuration, and troubleshooting of equipment.
• Preparing and maintaining field service vehicle for various site visits.
• Learn and apply basic concepts and techniques of ITS design.
• Make and test outdoor CAT5 Ethernet cables.
• Perform maintenance activities on existing field equipment.
• Collect field data, which could include conducting field observations.
• Troubleshooting, solving, and repair of any improperly functioning equipment.
• Maintaining site location information and equipment data for use on further trips.
• Entering and managing client inventory within an Inventory Management System.
• Managing and maintaining the company’s facility, company owned equipment, and company inventory.

Career Progression
From this position, the next step in career progression is to the position of Senior ITS Technician. To achieve this promotion, the employee must demonstrate efficiencies in all aspects of work assignment, show progression in independent technical and troubleshooting skills, demonstrate the ability to maintain strong team relationships with other employees, and perform independent quality control. Additionally, the employee should:
• Proficiently and independently program of ITS devices (i.e., IP cameras, DMS controllers, managed Ethernet switches, and wireless radios).
• Install cameras, network equipment, surge protection, power and communications cables and test for proper operations following checklist.
• Independently perform routine maintenance following appropriate checklists.
• Troubleshoot device issues and restore to working condition following prescribed troubleshooting guides.
