Intelligent Transportation Systems LLC (ITS LLC) seeks a motivated university student enrolled in an engineering or technology program to join our growing engineering team for the Summer of 2024. This internship will give you the opportunity to learn about the emerging technologies applied in traffic engineering, intelligent transportation systems, port security and surveillance, and more.
Under the supervision of our engineering and technical staff, the Summer Intern will work as a member of our ITS/Traffic Engineering team to complete a variety of traffic engineering and intelligent transportation systems (ITS) projects such as ITS design, traffic signal design, communications infrastructure development, device configuration/integration, traffic impact studies, traffic signal timing studies, and safety studies. The Student Intern will also have the opportunity to participate in field visits, technology configuration and installation, and equipment maintenance. This position requires attention to detail, exceptional organization skills, a strong work ethic, good written and verbal communication skills, and most importantly – a willingness to learn! The ideal candidate is self-motivated, team-oriented, and flexible, possessing the initiative and ability to take on new projects and challenges.
Required Qualifications:
• University student in good standing pursuing an Engineering or Engineering Technology degree
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to visit sites during design and/or construction to observe and record applicable information needed
• Ability to function in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
• Valid Driver’s License Required with acceptable motor vehicle record
• Requires successful passing of drug screening and background check
• Must be able to operate a computer and sit for long periods of time.
• Ability to work in the field or outside, able to bend, stoop and climb.

Roles & Responsibilities:
• Learn and apply basic concepts and techniques of ITS design and traffic engineering design
• Explore new technology applications with electronics and sensors for clients
• Draw, annotate, and review project plan sets
• Develop knowledge of tools and techniques used in the installation and configuration of equipment
• Assist with field installation, maintenance, configuration, and troubleshooting of equipment
• Assist with transportation planning reports, roadway safety studies, and general traffic engineering projects
• Assist with the collection, compilation, and analysis of data
• Assist in the development of models, figures, reports, and engineering plans for designs
• Assist with collection of field data, which could include conducting field observations
• Assist with the preparation of construction cost estimates for traffic signal and ITS design projects
• Work as a member of a team or independently to accomplish project tasks
• Explore the use of various software programs including MicroStation, REVIT, Microsoft Office AutoCAD, HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, and Sidra
• Support administrative activities such as data entry, copy, filing, and document organizing
• Participate in company-wide safety trainings and discussions

Additional Information:
This internship is an hourly-based paid position with a competitive hourly rate. It will occur on-site at ITS LLC’s office located in Prairieville, Louisiana (Baton Rouge). Summer housing is not provided as part of this position and will be the student’s responsibility to arrange. Employment dates are to be determined based on the candidate’s school schedule but are anticipated to be early-June to mid-August. Students much be enrolled in a four-year degree program and be a student in good standing with plans to return to school for the Fall 2024 semester/quarter.
